Frequently Asked Questions

How many weeks are in a human lifetime?
Based on the Prophetic hadith about life expectancy being between 60-70 years, a 70-year life contains approximately 3,640 weeks. Seeing your entire life laid out as a grid of dots puts time into perspective, every dot represents one irreplaceable week that has either been lived or is yet to come.
What does Islam say about reflecting on life and death?
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Remember often the destroyer of pleasures, death" (Tirmidhi). Islam encourages remembering death not to despair, but to motivate good deeds and prioritize what truly matters. This visualization is designed as a tool for tafakkur (contemplation), a practice praised in the Quran: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day are signs for those of understanding" (3:190).
How can visualizing my life in weeks be beneficial?
Seeing your life as a finite grid helps you: (1) Appreciate the time you have left. (2) Stop procrastinating on important goals, spiritual, family, and personal. (3) Make more intentional decisions about how you spend each week. (4) Strengthen your awareness of accountability before Allah. As Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "Take account of yourselves before you are taken to account."
What is the average Muslim lifespan?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said the lifespan of his ummah is between 60 and 70 years, and few pass beyond that (Tirmidhi). This hadith is a reminder that most of us have a finite and relatively short window to earn our akhirah.
What does Islam say about the value of time?
Allah swears by time in Surah Al-Asr, indicating its immense value. The Prophet said two blessings many people are deceived about: health and free time (Bukhari). Islam teaches that every moment is an opportunity for worship, good deeds, or beneficial knowledge.
How can I make the most of my life according to Islam?
Focus on the five before five: your youth before old age, health before sickness, wealth before poverty, free time before busyness, and life before death. Prioritize obligatory worship, continuous learning, serving others, and leaving a legacy of ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah).
What is the hadith about "five before five"?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your busyness, and your life before your death" (narrated by al-Hakim, authenticated by al-Albani).
